Being Human Fizz Hub
Enough Ginger/Guts! Soda Pop!
What is it?
Turn a familiar kitchen staple into a tiny living practice of care. At this hands-on workshop you’ll make your own ginger bug (a simple, safe fermentation starter), taste freshly brewed ginger soda, decorate the jar that holds your starter, and take it home so you can keep brewing gut-friendly soda for yourself and the people you care about.
Why join?
This year the Being Human Festival comes to Hong Kong for the first time. Under the festival’s theme of “Crossroads,” we ask: what do we let into our bodies, and how do everyday food practices shape how we care for ourselves and each other? Ginger is everywhere, in Asian kitchens and in Chinese and Indian medicinal traditions. If you’re new to ginger fermentation, we’ll show you a new way to look at that familiar root: as a living culture you can nurture, share, and use to create simple acts of care between friends and communities.
What you’ll do:
- Prepare and start an active ginger bug to keep at home
- Taste homemade ginger soda made from a mature ginger bug
- Decorate the jar that will hold your starter
- Leave with your starter, a one-page care guide, and the confidence to ferment at home
