Blueprints of Memory
Cyanotype is a traditional photographic process that produces a monochrome Prussian blue print. Just as food preservation uses salt to lock in and deepen flavour, cyanotype uses iron salts to fix an image, or a feeling, in place. We invite you to bring personal mementos from home, found objects, or special ingredients from around the festival (such as herbs, grains, or even a kombucha SCOBY). You’ll arrange your composition on traditional ramie fabric, expose it to UV light, then rinse it and watch the blue image reveal itself.
Through hands-on play, you’ll observe, touch, smell, arrange and finally preserve things that hold meaning and feeling, and take home your own handkerchief-sized cyanotype print on ramie.
No prior experience needed. All materials and fabric are provided. The process is fully guided and suitable for children with adult supervision.
