Our Families: Myths, Truths, and Futures
What is an “ideal” family today?
Have you ever wondered what an “ideal” family looks like today?
Many people say that the traditional idea of a family – a heterosexual, married couple with children – is no longer realistic. Today, more people are choosing to form different types of families, including single-parent, multigenerational, queer, and child-free families. Wars and displacement also create households on the move.
Our Families: Myths, Truths, and Futures examines how ideas about families are changing. Join us for a hands-on zine-making workshop that draws inspiration from historical posters by the Family Planning Association of Hong Kong (FPAHK) to consider what it means to be a family today.
By sharing our experiences, examining, deconstructing, and reassembling FPAHK posters, we want to understand what families look like today in Hong Kong. You can also visit an exhibit of the posters at one of Being Human Festival’s Tai Hang storefronts.
We want to hear from you: what shapes your ideas of a family?
