Being Human Fizz Hub

Live Kombucha Workshop

Join us for a session of SCOBY play and live Kombucha making.

(SCOBY stands for the Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast)

Kombucha is a living drink. It ferments and changes depending on the bacteria and yeast around it, including the ones it picks up from the people who handle it. Our SCOBY, “Fred”, arrived at this year’s Being Human Festival Hong Kong via Current Plans and has transformed many times along the way, carrying a little bit of everyone it has met.

In this sharing session you’ll learn how to make your own kombucha and how to look after a SCOBY at home. We’ll also try brewing with unusual ingredients (not just black tea!) and show you how to add seasonal flavors once the kombucha is bottled.

You are welcome to take a SCOBY home for free. In return, we ask you to let us know how it is doing over the following weeks. All ingredients are provided, but please bring your own half-pint glass jar with a tightly closing lid.

This is a family-friendly event. No previous experience is needed.

Please let the facilitator know if you have any allergies on the day of the event.
